Week 5 Lesson Plan
Today’s activity focuses on exploring familiar community places with your toddler, using a simple Google Map that highlights the library and the park. Begin by showing your child the custom map on your phone or tablet. Point out the pin for the library and say, “This is where we go to read books.” Walk with your toddler to the library, letting them notice street signs, sidewalks, and landmarks along the way. Once inside, encourage them to pick out a favorite book or join a short story time. This helps your toddler connect the digital map to a real place and builds early literacy and spatial awareness skills.
After visiting the library, open the Google Map again and show the pin for the park. Say, “Now let’s go to the park!” Walk together, letting your toddler notice the route and anticipate arriving. At the park, allow time for play while pointing out features like swings, slides, or trees, reinforcing that these are part of the special place they saw on the map. End the outing by talking about both stops: “We read at the library, and we played at the park.” This reflection helps toddlers strengthen memory, language, and a sense of routine.
